Hacking the hectic worklife - Problems to be solved
Hacking the hectic worklife

We have data available from online and print media nationally and globally. With the help of anomaly detection and deep learning AI systems, how can we use this information to create new kinds of intelligent services that help us solve one or more of the following challenges?

  • Well-being of Finnish entrepreneurs

Finnish entrepreneurs are doing well - or are they? Working in a healthy environment and being physically and mentally well is essential for success. But according to our study, only 37% of entrepreneurs have managed to find a good work-life balance. The rest are at risk of losing this balance or have already lost control of their own lives. Using the available data and tools, can we find new means of measuring well-being, or could we even predict when things are about to take a bad turn?

  • Trends and topics of interest

Knowing the next big things in the world of entrepreneurs can help us to have more meaningful dialogue with them. Can you identify the most relevant topics of interest and conceive new service ideas that can be tailored to the demands of entrepreneurs when they are needed?

  • Timely support for new entrepreneurs

For many, becoming an entrepreneur seems like an overwhelming task due to complex processes and legislation. Providing a simpler path, support and services for people who strive to become entrepreneurs is necessary. Using the available data, we should identify these people and learn what kind of service they would benefit from. Can you think of new service concepts to cater for these needs?

Why Elo Data Science Hack?

The aim is to help small companies or entrepreneurs working alone flourish and maintain balance in their working life. As Finland's most popular employment pension insurer, we feel passionate about Finnish entrepreneurs' well-being. We have over 85,000 customers and as much as we'd like to be there for them personally, the only way to aid each and every one of them is with digital solutions. So we are calling out to you to help us help them - and by them, we mean people probably just like you!

What’s on the plate for hacker teams?

Data and support. The attending teams are provided with API access to data sources, complete with some pre-selected data sets concentrating on the target market. You are encouraged to bring your own data, either for your personal use or to be shared across the teams. Elo and Tieto provide senior expert mentors that are available to coach the teams during the event, both on technology and business. M-Brain provides senior experts in both artificial and human media intelligence to help the teams to utilize M-Brain’s platform to tap into a Big Data scale source of media data.

Artificial Intelligence. Teams will have access to Simularity’s innovative and unique artificial intelligence system, which uses temporal reasoning and deep learning
to make sense of the data. You will be able to load your own data into the system for the AI to learn from.

What kind of timebox are we talking about?

A more detailed briefing and access to data sources will be given to selected teams 2 weeks before the event. At this point teams can also load their own data for the AI to chew on. The event itself lasts on October 27th to 28th from Thursday morning to Friday late afternoon, when teams will pitch their solutions on stage to the hackathon Jury, which then selects the winners.

What about food and lodging?

Elo and Tieto provide the premises and catering for attending teams. Travel and accommodation are at the expense of participants.
